 Pole Moor Burial Register 1783 to 1836
The Broadbent family has been grave diggers for generations at Pole Moor Chapel, which opened in 1783. The family ran a grave digging business, which was passed from father to son for generations until 1914. Eric Broadbent my grandfather the last of the Broadbent grave diggers. Earlier this year a Broadbent relative from America sent the old burial register to me. In April of this year, I carried out a detailed survey of the old graveyard, photographing and recording all the details of every headstone. I intend to update the burial register, create a new graveyard plan to run along side the original one and a burial database. In 2010, I will be holding a Pole Moor Chapel open day.
