At launds during the period c.1150 to c.1540 the settlement was used partially as an inn and a religious small holding for persons from Fountains abbey. Here is a rare example of a manuscript, firstly letter set out, then printed for use at Fountains abbey. This particular manuscript is for recording crops collected and below the tablets are early templates for Broadbent grave stones
